Possum Impressions

Multimedia Installation at the Berkeley Center for New Media
University of California Berkeley
Dec 2015 – June 2016

This natural history museum-style exhibition with two plush, life-size opossums was made in response to the phenomena of possums appearing in UC Berkeley Title IX sexual harassment trainings, where possums "playing dead" were likened to the "freeze" response during assault.

A digital plaque (video below) shifts between description of opossums and survivors, pointing to ways the comparison between "playing dead" and the "freeze" response to trauma is both useful and problematic.
